My Effort Rekindled!

Yesterday I paid a visit to my homeboys Ron and Russ in Games Workshop, Chelmsford. I spent about 4 hours in there just chatting, loitering and gawping at toys.

While I was there, I got to talking about the current campaigns going on. They’ve got a basic progressive Warhammer campaign at the moment where you start off with a 500pts army and then earn the right to have an increased size army as you go. The proviso for taking part is that the models are painted. This is my number one weakness when it comes to tabletop wargaming. I can knock out superbly modelled miniatures, with weird and wonderful conversions and built-from-scratch megabeasties galore. I can paint individual character models to a fairly high standard. Painting an army, however…..urghhhh…

I have NEVER, in the 17-odd years I’ve been into GW games, had a painted army. I set targets, develop systems etc…. but it never bloody happens! This time, however, I’m going for it!

I’ve chosen to use Empire models, not only because I’ve got shit-tons of them already, but because I’ve already started (more than once) to paint them as well!

I’ll be posting up pictures of models I get painted too. None of work-in-progress as nobody wants to see those; just when they’re done and looking sexy!

My 500pts list looks a little something like this:

Heroes Pts M WS BS S T W I A Ld
Wizard 65 4 3 3 3 3 2 3 1 7
lvl2 35
dispell scroll 25
Core Pts M WS BS S T W I A Ld
Swordsmen (20) 120 4 4 3 3 3 1 4 1 7
Command 25
Handgunners (10) 80 4 3 3 3 3 1 3 1 7
Marksman 5
Hochland 20
Spearmen (10) 50 4 3 3 3 3 1 3 1 7
Special Pts M WS BS S T W I A Ld
Mortar 75         7 3     “(7)”
Total: 500

Now, I know it’s not terribly exciting, but I’m not entirely sure about the new allowances in the latest version of Warhammer so I’m being a bit conservative.

My army is a Nuln army, so my progressions will be including more and more war machines and guns. Debating whether to exchange the wizard for a master engineer, although with a wizard you could have a different lore of magic for each game depending on your enemy. Thoughts?

Would appreciate comments from all Warhammer players who don’t burst a blood vessel if they lose a single soldier or fly off the handle if someone doesn’t place the same importance on your favorite magic item.
