Bad Move by BBC News?

Take a look at this article on BBC News’ website. It’s an article explaining how forensic scientists assess a crime scene, and figure out who committed a murder.

When I first saw this I was interested in what it was saying, as I assume and hope most people would be. The level of detail is impressive, and they’ve done a very nice job of making it attractive to view and use. All in all, a very nice article.

Then I got to thinking…. hang on a minute…. hasn’t this very nicely laid-out, simplified and informative article just put in terms a thuggish killer could understand how a thuggish killer could avoid being detected after killing someone?

It’s like saying ,“Guns are really bad. Here’s a funky step-by-step on how to build your own, with little fly-out diagrams for CCTV blind spots, and a list of the top 10 weaknesses suffered by police when tracking who has one!”

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me overreacting; but it just seems like a really bad idea to have real police officers giving away their procedures.
